Replacing the old airport which had been overtaken by urbanization and was limited by a shorter runway, Qiemo Yudu Airport was finished in 2016, 15 kms further away from the middle of Qiemo city. By car, the journey is 30 minutes long when National Highway 315 is chosen. Flights take residents to Korla, Ruoqiang and Urumqi (at least 5 times weekly). China Southern Airlines and China Express Airlines are the only options of airline carriers.
