Temple for Distant Security (Anyuan Miao)

Chengde, China

The Temple for Distant Security (Anyuan Miao or Yili Temple) is located in the Chengde County, Hebei Province, China. Situated on the Dongpin Hill, it provides a superb panoramic view of the Wulie River and Summer Villa nearby. This 18th-century temple covers an area of 26,000 square meters. The complex had many buildings at the time, of which only the Pududian or Hall of Appeasing the Borders remains intact. Unlike any other temple in China, this one has a black-tiled roof. There is a very unique stele engraved with Qianlong style calligraphy written in Manchurian, Tibetan, Han Chinese, and Mongolian scripts that is worth seeing.
