Tuanshan

Honghe, China

The Tuanshan Village is a treasure-trove of ancient mansions built during the Qing Dynasty and owned by the affluent class of the Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. It was inhabited by the local Yi and Han ethnic minority groups. They were basically a farming community who gained wealth over the years. The mansions they built have a distinctive architecture that showcases the artistic talents of people in the region, and how they admired the finer things in life. The two-storied mansions have carved stone skirting, black-tiled roofs, pointed eaves, white walls, exquisitely designed pavilions, gardens, and courtyards. The villagers are fond of calligraphy, painting, poetry, and literature.
