Imam Asim's Tomb

Located near the town of Hotan in the Xinjiang Autonomous Prefecture of China is the famous Imam Asim's Tomb. It was built in honor of the Sufi Imam, a religious and military leader who is revered by the local Uighur community. The tomb has a steady stream of pilgrims visiting and praying throughout the year. Imam Asim, who was a khan of the Turkish Kara Khanid Dynasty, was responsible for removing Buddhism from Hotan and establishing the Islamic culture in 1,000 A.D. Sufis are considered messengers of Allah and they are a community and religious leaders who are revered by the Islamic Uighurs.
