Guanlin Temple

Luoyang, China

Respected and admired equally by Confucians, Taoists, and Buddhists, General Guan Yu is a heroic figure who lived during the rule of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty. The Guanlin Temple is where his head is buried. The Temple was later expanded into a huge complex during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is a typical example of artistic Chinese architecture and has many ancient relics besides the main tomb. You will see an entire art gallery with almost 2000 ancient epitaphs, steles, stone inscriptions, and reliefs that depict the heroic stories of Guan Yu. It is interesting that these artifacts have remained in such superb condition after so many centuries.
