Nanhai Guanyin

Located in the Puji Temple on Putuo Shan Island, Zhoushan archipelago, Zhejiang Province, China is the spectacular statue of Nanhai Guanyin. Called the Goddess of Mercy and Salvation, this Chan Buddhist is the only female avatar of the Buddha. The statue is 20 meters tall and is on a 13-meters tall pedestal (total height 33 meters). The statue is so large that it can be seen from a long distance even before you reach the islands. The Nanhai Guanyin statue is an object of worship for the Chan and Taoist Buddhist. It is also considered one of the most coveted Asian art pieces and is found in most museums and souvenir shops in China.
