The Great Wall of China at Yanmen Guan (Yanmen Pass) is 2000 years old and is located in the Shanxi Province, China. The Di Li Gate or the northern gate of the Pass has unique barbicans that form a double layer of defense. The entrance is built into the East wall instead of in the front so the entrance is not visible. The central Tian Xian Gate cannot be seen directly from the east gate, and so on. This kind of architecture turned out to be a superb defensive tactic in the old days when there were frequent attempts of invasions by the Mongols and Manchus.
