Shi Family Courtyard Residence

The Shi Family Courtyard Residence is the former home of Shi Yuanshi, a son of Shi Wancheng who was one of the 8 grandmasters in Tianjin, China. The Wanchangs were a powerful family during the Qing Dynasty. What attracts tourists to this well-preserved residence is it splendid architecture and imperial-style interiors. It has some of the best specimens of calligraphy, paintings, period furniture, wood carvings, clay pottery and carvings, brick carvings, and the local Tianjin folk art relics. The Shifu Garden looks spectacular. Numerous historical films and television shows have been shot at the residence. The place even has a theater with 200 seats!
