Since the Mount Erlang Tunnel was built reducing travel time to just one hour between Sichuan Province in mainland China and the central Tibetan Plateau, Erlang Shan in the Sichuan Province has developed into a major tourist zone. The range boasts of a vista that is like a beautiful painting. It has some of the most rugged tall peaks, dense virgin forests, crystal-clear streams, and a variety of wildlife. The range is considered a paradise for birdwatchers, with large flocks of Firethroat, Chinese Monal, Sichuan Jay, Temminck’s Tragopan, Red-Winged Laughingthrush, and Black-Necked Cranes. The tea made from the local streams is considered the tastiest in the region.
