Yangjialing Revolution Headquarters

Yan'an, China

Located in the city of Yan'an, Shaanxi Province, China is the Yangjialing Revolution Headquarters which was the former head office of the Communist Party. Spread over an area of 6.7 hectares, the complex has many important buildings. The sites of tourist interest are the Great Auditorium, the Yaodongs, and the Office Building. The Yaodongs are manmade caves carved out on the hillside for aesthetic reasons. The site also has the residences of Chairman Mao, Zhou Enlai (Premier) and other prominent members of the Chinese Communist Party. This is a tourist attraction primarily because it is a symbol of freedom and liberation.
