Dengzhou City is located in the southwestern part of the Henan Province of China. It lies on the borders of the Henan, Shaanxi, and Hubei provinces. It forms a tourist triangle with other famous cities like Wuhan (famous for the East Lake Scenic Area) and Xi’an (famous for the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and his Terracotta Army) and is a part of the usual tourist circuit. Dengzhou City is a place of learned and educated people and has produced many renowned personalities like Zhang Zhongjing (the first practitioner of Chinese traditional medicine), Fan Zhongyan (author), Han Yu (poet), etc. With semi-urbanization, the city has well-developed tourism and hospitality sectors and other related facilities. The accommodation is cheaper than that in larger cities. Therefore, Dengzhou is a convenient base from where one can go sightseeing in other more famous cities in the province.
Attractions
Fusheng Pagoda – With a height of almost 36 meters, the Fusheng Pagoda is a magnificent sight. Located in the heart of Dengzhou, it is the highlight of the city and is a great example of the ancient Buddhist culture of the local people.
Huazhou College – This tourist attraction is actually a school which was constructed at the behest of Rong Zhao Chun, a famous politician in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital. Very little of the original structure has remained because it has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over many generations. But the present architecture still has the old-world appearance that makes it an appealing tourist attraction. The artistically designed landscaped gardens add to the beauty of the college.
GuCheng ShangYeJie – This is a long street with ancient-style buildings lined on either side. The old mansions have been restored and converted into roadside cafes, teahouses, and souvenir shops. Most overseas tourists can be found here in the evenings and the street is a great place to buy keepsakes at bargain prices.
