Qinghai-Tibet Railway
Golmud, China
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is a high-elevation railway that connects the Xining City, Qinghai Province to Lhasa City, the capital of the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. It is the easiest way to reach Golmud, a town in Qinghai where large deposits potassium, salt, magnesium, lead, zinc, gold, copper, jade, and other precious stones are mined. Many tourist attractions lie on the way like the Kumbum Monastery, Xining Nanshan Park Scenic Area, Dongguan Grand Mosque, China-Tibetan Medicine Culture Museum, and more. Mountaineers take this route often because Xining is one of the starting points to climb up to the Everest Base Camp.
