The Three Bridges

Tongli, China

Considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tongli Water Town is located in the Jiangsu Province of China. Due to its countless canals and bridges, the Town is also called the “Venice of the East”. The most famous bridges are the three ternate bridges, namely the Taipeng, Jili, and Changqing Bridges that were built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The locals believe that when you walk over the Three Bridges in a sequence, they bring health, prosperity, and longevity respectively. The custom of going across the ternate bridges on foot is still followed by the townspeople even today.
