Yuxi Travel Guide

In the center of the colorful Yunnan Province of China lies the prefecture-level city of Yuxi. It is situated just 90Kms away from the provincial capital of Kunming and is famous for the UNESCO World Heritage Site that lies in its vicinity. Consequently, the city has become a regular part of the tourist circuit. On its own merit, the diverse nationalities, ethnic culture, and scenic beauty of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, fossil sites, ancient relics, and other attractions draw tourists from all over the world to the charming Yuxi City.

When one talks of fossil sites one is usually referring to either dinosaurs or prehistoric human settlements. But the Chengjiang Fossil Site near Yuxi City is a very unique archaeological site. It is one of the best sites of marine organisms that date back to 541 million years ago. The Cambrian faunae fossils found here are in an excellent state of preservation. A majority of the remote ancestors of today’s animals have been discovered here. No wonder, the site has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In contrast, today’s downtown Yuxi is an area filled with large towering office complexes, recreational facilities, restaurants, fast food takeaways, entertainment zones, shopping malls, glitzy hotels, pubs, nightclubs, food streets, old-style markets, and more.

The city of Yuxi has a well-developed infrastructure and many tourist-related facilities which include good-quality accommodation. There are many 2, 3, and 4-star hotels that have spacious and aesthetically designed rooms. Attractions

The Xingyun Lake is the highlight of Yuxi City as far as sightseeing is concerned. This is a picturesque freshwater lake located at an altitude of more than 1,700 meters above sea level. The lake is teeming with different types of fish and is the breeding ground for at least 20 varieties of fish. Not only is the lake known for its unmatched beauty but it is also the location of several other tourist attractions.

The Zhaojiawan Luozhipu Hot Spring is very close to the Xingyun Lake. Another site that is also popular with tourists is the Haixi Village Hot Spring which is also called Early Street. It has five spring mouths all naturally arranged in a row. The temperature of water in both the springs is warm throughout the year irrespective of the season.

The Ailaoshan Scenic Area is a popular ecotourism spot with its variety of flora and fauna. It consists of several tourist zones like the Jinshanyakou Primitive Forest area, Shimen Valley, and the Ancient Tea-Horse Road area. Ecology and biodiversity is the focus of this tourist attraction. On the other hand, the Yux-Huilong-Ecological-Park is a 200,000 square meters area that is more like an amusement park within pristine surroundings. It provides several enjoyable activities and consists of interesting areas like sports facilities, recreational center, exhibition hall, and the hot-spring spa area.

Other attractions near Yuxi City include the Longma Karst Caves, Fuxianhu Lake Holliday Resort, Xiushan Mountain Park, Qilu Lake, Ancient Ceramics Kiln Site, Yuquan Temple, Tonghai Confucian Temple, etc.
