Tianning Temple and Wenfeng Pagoda
Anyang, China
Located in the Anyang County, Henan Province, China is a Buddhist temple called the Tianning Temple. Going by the inscription in the complex the original temple dated back before the Five Dynasties period. That temple was destroyed and was later rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty. This umbrella-shaped newer temple was renamed the Wenfeng (Literature Peak) Pagoda during the Qing Dynasty not because it had anything to do with literature. It was named so because there is a Confucian temple nearby which is a seat of learning. There are beautiful Ming Dynasty Buddhist carvings on the stone pedestal that is the base of the temple.
