Banyan Lake and Fir Lake

Guilin, China

During the Tang Dynasty a moat was built in the town of Guilin. As the town expanded, the small moat became two large lakes connected by an ornate bridge. The bridge was constructed during the Song Dynasty. On the banks of one lake fir trees were planted. The other lake had a large banyan tree that looked very impressive. Over the centuries this area developed into a large recreational area which is now called the Banyan Lake and Fir Lake. It is a free park that the locals use for their morning exercises and for relaxing with friends and family. The Mid-Lake islet can be reached via a beautiful zigzag bridge.
