Overhanging Great Wall
Jiayuguan, China
Located about 6.5Kms from the Jiayuguan Fort in the Gansu Province, China is the Overhanging Great Wall. It was an important part of the Fort’s defense system. This section was built in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty reign to augment the defense capabilities of the Fort. When seen from afar, the Overhanging Great Wall looks very picturesque and looks as if a large painting has been hung on a cliff, which is how it got its name. Like the Fort, it was built using the local yellow mud and gravel and has three imposing observation towers, the main path, and the massive battlements.
