Thousand Buddha Cliff
Jinan, China
The Thousand Buddha Cliff is a series of grottoes on the Qianfo Shan (mountain) near Jinan City, Shandong Province, China. The grottoes stretch from west to east over a length of 500 meters on the north cliff of the mountain. There are four main caves called the Jile Cave, Ivzu Cave, Longquan Cave, and the Qianlou Cave. These caves are famous for the 23,000 Buddhist statues and inscriptions that date back to the Sui, Northern Wei, Tang, and the Song Dynasties. The statues of the Bodhisattvas, the Buddha, his Disciples, and the Guardian Kings reflect centuries-worth of artistry and workmanship.
