The Baoshan Stone Village near Lijiang, China is the most unusual place in the world. It is a group of 100 homes built on a gigantic mushroom-shaped rock on the banks of the Yangtze River. The villagers belong to the Naxi ethnic minority group. They call the village Labolu Panwu which means “white stone village” in their dialect. The houses are built using the natural formation of the land without cutting through the rocks. The paths between the houses are narrow and they are all interconnected. The only access to the village is through two ancient stone gates on the north and south directions. Although not part of the usual tourist circuit, this is village really worth a visit.
