Gomar Gompa (Gomari Si)

Gomar Gompa (Gomari Si) is a 400-year-old Buddhist monastery located in Tongren (Rebkong) Town, Huangnan Prefecture, Qinghai Province of China. The monastery looks like an ancient walled town but is still a place of worship. There are 130 monks in residence who chant Buddhist mantras and meditate. At the entrance of the monastery is a magnificent chorten or Tibetan stupa. You are permitted to climb the stupa but you have to remember to go clockwise around it. At the top of the stupa are images of the 14th Dalai Lama. Exquisite thangkas (painted or embroidered silk pieces) made by the monks are available for sale.
