Ganjia Grasslands

Xiahe, China

The Ganjia Grasslands in the Gansu Province of China has the double advantage of ancient relics and fascinating natural landscape. The grasslands are lush and green most of the year, filled with colorful flowers and grazing sheep and yaks. The Trakkar Gompa (monastery) nearby is a very picturesque sight. It is located on a hill that has the strikingly beautiful rock formations. With 90 Buddhist monks in residence, the Trakkar Monastery is still a place of worship. The grasslands are also the location of the 2,000-year-old walled Bajiao Village (Karnang) which dates back to the Han Dynasty. With so many attractions, it is little wonder that the grasslands are a part of the regular tourist circuit.
