Planted during the Sui Dynasty, the Big Banyan Tree is located in Gaotian Village, Yangshuo County, China. This 1,400-years-old tree is part of the ten-mile scenic gallery of the region and is a major tourist attraction. Today, the tree is 17 meters tall and 7 meters wide and covers an area of 1,000 square meters. It has not just survived but thrived over many centuries and some local people refer to it as the “god tree” and pray to it. The banyan tree is also associated with romantic legends. Locals believe that if a single person clicks a picture sitting under the tree, the person will find his/her true love.
