Fenghuang (Phoenix Town)

When a pair of phoenixes hovered over a small town in China's Hunan Province, they found it so beautiful that they were unwilling to leave. This is the legend from which the Fenghuang's (Phoenix Town) fame has spread. It has an abundance of mountains, blue skies, and water bodies that have a mythical appearance, hence the legend! Locals believe that visiting the town brings good luck and longevity. Between July and September, the town has the most pleasant weather. The Tuo Jiang River that flows through the village and its ancient bridges have inspired many artists and painters. Today, the villagers earn their living by fishing and ferrying locals and tourists across the river.
