Dujiangyan Irrigation System
Dujiangyan, China
The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is the only no-dam irrigation system existing in the world today and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Considered the “treasure” of the Sichuan Province of China, it is a scientifically designed system to prevent floods, irrigate farmlands, and provide water to more than 50 cities and towns in the province. The project is made up of the Feishayan, Yuzui, and the Baopingkou sections that have been effectively controlling the waters of the Minjiang River. This unique irrigation system alternately diverts water and displaces stones and sand to maintain the flow at manageable levels. The Anlan Cable Bridge gives a beautiful bird’s eye view of the scenic system.
