Garze Prefecture, China

The Litang (Lithang) County is located in the Garze Tibetan Prefecture of the Sichuan Province, China. With an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level, the county has a sub-arctic climate and alpine vegetation. So the winters are long and cold and the summers are short and cool with frequent rainfall. The region has the distinction of being the birthplace of the 7th and 10th Dalia Lamas and many other Buddhist gurus. There are numerous Gelupa Buddhist temples like the Jiage Shenshan Lamasery and the Chorten Karpo (White Stupa). The region looks beautiful with snow-capped mountain peaks, colorful prayer flags, and lovely temples.
