Bamboo Temple
Kunming, China
Established during the Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty, the Bamboo Temple (Qiongzhu Temple) in Kunming, China has the most fascinating relics. The temple has 500 life-size clay sculptures of luohans (Buddhist enlightened Arhats or gurus) created by the artist Li Guangxiu. Each luohan expresses a unique emotion like curiosity, sorrow, laughter, peace, hunger, satisfaction, anger, hatred, love, affection, etc. The luohans are beautifully crafted and together they can be quite an awesome sight. There are numerous tablets and columns with ancient inscriptions that are worth seeing too.
