When you are in China, a visit to the Dian Lake (Dianchi Lake Scenic Area) near Kunming City will be a very enjoyable experience. Dianchi is the largest freshwater lake situated in the Yunnan Province. The attractions around the lake include the White Fish Park (Baiyukou Park), the Western Hills Forest Park, the Yunnan Nationalities Village, Kwan-yin Hill, Grand View Park (Daguan Park), and numerous pagodas and temples. Due to its pleasant climate in summer it is a popular site for picnics and weekend getaways. The area is surrounded by twenty-five ethnic villages where you can enjoy folk dances, elephant performances, and other cultural activities. There are numerous shops that sell local food specialties, handicrafts, and souvenirs.
