Bingling Thousand Buddha Caves

Lanzhou, China

Just 35Kms from Lanzhou City, China are the Bingling Thousand Buddha Caves. The site is made of four massive caves with 183 niches spread over an expanse of 900 square meters. The Bingling caves were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014. The term "bingling" means ten thousand Buddhas in the Tibetan language. The construction started during the Jin Dynasty and continued over many years. It has as many as 82 clay sculptures and 694 stone statues, with the best-preserved ones being in the cave nos. 125 and 169. They are remarkable examples of Buddhist artistry that existed since ancient times in China.
