Twin Bridges

Zhouzhuang, China

Zhouzhuang Water Town in the Jiangsu Province of China is a fascinating tourist destination with many rivers and bridges. Built during the Ming Dynasty, the Twin Bridges (Double Bridges) site is a major attraction here. The Shide Bridge and Yongan Bridge, as they are individually known, cross the Yinzibang and Town Rivers respectively. Shide is an arched bridge and Yongan is a stone-girder type of bridge. They also cross each other and create a picture-perfect scene irrespective of the season. The scene of the Twin Bridges became famous after the 20th-century artist Chen Yifei’s painting “Memory of Hometown” was displayed in a New York art gallery.
