The city of Shaoshan is located about 70 miles from Changsha, but you can get there via bus, train, or car. Although it has thousands of years of history, today it is most famous for being the birthplace of Chairman Mao Zedong. The number one site to see in Shaoshan is his former residence. There you can find information on his achievements, as well as visit the Memorial Museum and walk the Mao Zedong’s Bronze Statue Square.

Other attractions include the Water Dripping Cave, Fairy Peak, and Limpid Stream, where you can enjoy the amazing landscape. You can also visit the restaurant owned by Mao’s family that serves extremely tasty braised pork.
