Temple of Universal Peace (Puning Si)

Spread over an area of 23,000 square meters in the Chengde County of Hebei Province, China is the Temple of Universal Peace (Puning Si). The architecture of the temple is a beautiful blend of Han and Tibetan styles. It consists of the Mahavira Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, and the Stele Pavilion. But the most magnificent part of the temple is the 36-meters high Mayana Hall which has a 22-meters tall Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin or Goddess of Mercy) statue with 1,000 heads and 1,000 arms. This is believed to be the biggest wooden statue in the world and can be seen from a long distance as you approach the town!
