The Ancient Alu Cave

Honghe, China

Located in the Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China is the Ancient Alu Cave. In the Song and Yuan Dynasty eras, the Alu ethnic community of 37 tribes lived within this vast interconnected cave system. Spread over 3,000 meters, the cave has 18 chambers that can accommodate 4,000 people. It has springs, colorful karst rock formations, and numerous stalactites and stalagmites (speleothems). The most significant chambers are the Luyuan Cave, Biyu Cave, and the Yuzhu Cave that are distinguishable by their different types of speleothems. Some of the speleothems are shaped like lotuses, marquees, filaments, curls, snowflakes, etc. The Yusun River is well-known for its Transparent Dark Red Fish.
