Hotan Cultural Museum
Hotan, China
The silk carpets made by the Hotan community have been as popular as those from Persia and Samarkand since ancient times. The Hotan Cultural Museum located in the Xinjiang Autonomous Prefecture of China has many exhibits showcasing the local Uighur people’s talent at making the most exquisite carpets. The people have been and are very artistic in other ways too. The museum has a vast collection of ancient embroidered and painted silk fragments, artistically crafted wooden utensils, clothing, jade jewelry, jade showpieces, etc. The museum also has two 1500-year-old Eurasian mummified remains, one is of a man of 35 years and the other a girl aged 10 years.
