The Kashgar Old Town in China is located at the convergence of four cultures, namely Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. It has been ruled by the Chinese, Turks, and Mongols at different times in its long history. The locals belong to the Uigur ethnic group. The old town is a unique maze of narrow streets that crisscross each other. Most of the structures are an unusual blend of Islamic and Uigur style of architecture. At first sight you will feel you are in a place from the Arabian Nights tales. The residences are simple, with mud-covered walls, colorful doors, and modest courtyards. Tourists can experience their festivals, songs, dances, and taste their mouthwatering dishes like shashlik, roast buns, and pancakes.
