The Yamdrok-tso or Yamdrok Lake is perennial and gets fresh water from numerous streams that flow down the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The lake and its surrounding grasslands are a source of survival for the Tibetans. It is rich in fish, that the locals catch and sell in Lhasa. The surrounding mountain slopes have plentiful of pastures where the people can graze their yaks, cattle, goats, and other livestock. Tibetans believe that circumambulating the lake every year will bring them luck and salvation. Even on horseback, this process will take a month. That's how large the lake is!
