Flaming Mountains

Flaming Mountains, located in Tian Shan Mountain range in Xinjiang, edging the northern part of Turpan, got this interesting name after the mesmerizing and unique visual effects created when the Sun is in zenith. At that time, the observer sees the mountains made of red clay as a red-colored mass shining and burning like fire. The overall impression is reinforced with the extremely high air temperature, which reaches seventy degrees Celsius during the hottest months.
