East Grove Temple

The East Grove Temple or Donglin Temple is located on the western slopes of Mount Lu in the Jiangxi Province of China. The temple belongs to the followers of the Pure Land Sect of Chinese Buddhism (also called the Lotus Sect). It has been a popular place of prayer and learning since the Tang Dynasty. The Buddhist monks have laid a great emphasis on the translation, annotation, and collation of Buddhist scriptures. The temple has countless ancient writings, calligraphic works, and printed scriptures. There are 4,000 inscribed tablets left behind by believers over many centuries. Most tourists visit the temple while they are visiting the Thousand Buddha Temple nearby.
