Great Wall of China at Gu Guan (Guguan Pass)
Taiyuan, China
Located in the Shanxi Province, the Great Wall of China at Gu Guan (Guguan Pass) is the best preserved section of the Wall. Because it is difficult to reach, it has had a strategic military significance since ancient times. The Pass has 11 mounds and emplacements, two beacon towers, a sentry post, three enemy towers, and an ammunition storage tower that have all remained intact even today. On the south of the Pass is a cavalry ground, a raceway, an archery ground, and a platform for military-related ceremonies. There are several temples around the Gu Guan Pass like the Laoye temple, Dragon King temple, Sanguan temple, the God of Literature temple, etc. that are superb tourist attractions.
