Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Great Mosque of Xi'an, China is a very popular tourist attraction and a place of worship even today. It was built during the Tang Dynasty and the mosque’s complex covers an area of 6,000 square meters. It has four courtyards, of which the first one is a museum of ancient furniture that dates back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The second and third courtyards have many ancient steles with beautiful calligraphy and inscriptions and the Xingxin Tower. The fourth courtyard contains the main prayer hall that can accommodate 1,000 devotees at a time. Typical Islamic art decorates the wall of the mosque that look like beautiful patterns.
