Milarepa’s Cave

Milarepa was one of the most prominent poets and gurus of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhists. The Milarepa’s Cave contains his statue in a glass case guarded by monks at all times. This cave is located in the Nyalam County, Shigatse Prefecture, in Tibet, China. The cave is also the only access point for entering the picturesque hidden Lapchi Gang Valley. To reach the valley you have to pass through the Cave. Pilgrims line-up to offer decorated stones, flowers, and herbs as an offering even today. Another interesting aspect of the Cave is Milarepa’s handprint on the boulder that he used to prevent the cave ceiling from collapsing.
