Millions of tourists flock every year to Badaling, which is considered one of the most popular and best-preserved sections of the Great Wall to visit. Badaling was erected in 1504, but the travelers didn’t gain open access until 1957. Ever since then, many famous people visited it, including world leaders such as Margaret Thatcher, Richard Nixon, and Nelson Mandela.
The Wall is approximately 26 feet tall here and the section is about 7.5 miles long. Not only it is fairly close to Beijing (approximately 42 miles), but it is a section of the Great Wall that you can climb without much effort. It is not that steep, but it still offers breathtaking views and great opportunities to take photos.
