Monument to the People's Heroes
In the memory of people who lost their lives during the revolutions in the 19th and 20th centuries, a ten-storied obelisk-shaped square building was constructed called the Monument to the People's Heroes. This memorial is situated in the southern section of the Tiananmen Square, Beijing. It is made with 413 pieces of granite that are placed in 32 layers. When you visit the site, don't forget to see the single large piece of granite on which is a glazed inscription of Mao Zedong's words hoping for glory to the martyrs. The total area of the memorial is spread over 3,000 square meters and is worth a visit.
