Houhai Hutong

Beijing, China

In Chinese, a hutong means a narrow commercial street. The Houhai is a vast artificial lake near Beijing, China. On the banks of the lake is the Houhai Hutong, full of countless bars, cafes, tea shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, and more. Besides wanting to see the scenic area, tourists come in large numbers also to shop and spend time in the narrow hutongs. Some of the most popular ones here are the South Gong and Drum Lane, the Skewed Tobacco Pouch Street, and the Ya'er Hutong. While you are in the area, you must also visit other attractions like the princely mansions or the former residences of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a well-known revolutionary.
