During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), several princes lived in this area, which is why it received the name Wangfu. At some point, a well (jing) and people started calling it Wangfujing. This is the name the street has kept until today, although it is now entirely modern with numerous buildings and plazas.
Wangfujing Street is located in the Dongcheng District and it is approximately one mile long. It is believed that more than 500,000 people pass it each day, while the number can even double on holidays. Those who visited Paris might be reminded of Champs-Elysees while looking at numerous shops and stores in Wangfujing.
