Although the Guangji Temple in Beijing is not an impressive structure compared to other temples in the area, it happens to be the headquarters of the Chinese Buddhist Association. Monks and devotees come together to pray and pay their homage at the temple. After a massive fire in 1934, the temple had been closed for a while. It has been opened mostly for believers and monks. It is not the usual tourist attraction where you see a crowd of people but an austere and simple temple. The only sounds are those of temple bells and holy chanting. However, there are several shops in the temple complex that sell incense, religious book, prayer CDs, and statues.
