Moon Boat (Saudi Arabia Expo Pavilion)

Shanghai, China

Covering an area of 6,000 square meters, the Moon Boat is so called because it is shaped like a moon-boat, symbolizing the maritime Silk Route from China to Saudi Arabia. It is also known as the Saudi Arabia Expo Pavilion. As a symbol of friendship between the East and West, 150 date palms were planted on the roof of the Pavilion and exist even today. There is a beautiful exhibition hall that seems to hang between the top and lower sections of the moon-boat, making it an architectural marvel. It houses beautiful examples of calligraphy in Chinese and Arabic. You must not miss the 3D cinema hall called “WA Space”!
