Yuyuan Bazaar (Yuyuan Market)

Shanghai, China

Originally called the City God Temple, the Yuyuan Bazaar or Yuyuan Market was built in the 15th century. As the number of pilgrims visiting the temple increased, more and more vendors set up shops around the temple complex. Today it is a marketplace that specializes in traditional Chinese artifacts and handicrafts. The shops sell unique and artistic pieces of antiques, bamboo crafts, silk fans, paintings, shell carvings, etc. that have a distinctly Chinese style. This is the perfect place to buy souvenirs to take home. Tourists also like to try out the famous soup dumplings in the numerous roadside cafes around the temple.
